“You can only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” — Mae West
The other day, I came across this fortune in a fortune cookie. You know what I mean, the little cookie you get with Chinese food that has those brief messages.
When I looked up this sentence, it turns out that Mae West is credited with the quote. Interesting.
However, for this article, I will stick with the fortune cookie aspect of the sentiment.
In Bed
I usually add the phrase ‘in bed’ to the fortune, and most times, it improves the meaning and flair of the fortune. I love the randy sentiment the addition implies. Back in the late 80s, I learned to add the phrase when I first moved to this town. My coworkers and I would go out to lunch regularly. It was during one of these lunches I heard the phrase ‘in bed’ added to a fortune. I loved it and immediately adopted the practice. Most everyone I know either already does it or enjoyed my idiosyncrasy. It’s odd that my live-in girlfriend doesn’t find it cute, but I do it anyway. It’s fun.
However, in this case, I don’t think to add the phrase ‘in bed’ improves the sentiment. Think about it.
Happy Easter one and all. It’s Easter Morning around the world. Be it a religious or secular holiday for you, I hope it is good for you.
Did the Easter bunny bring you a beautiful basket, painted egg, or a chocolate version of himself? On this morning and as a child, I’d find a charming basket filled with jelly beans, marshmallow chicks, chocolate eggs and, of course, a chocolate Easter bunny.
Last week, my girlfriend gave me a refrigerator magnet with the definition for Coffeegasm written on it. I had never heard the word before, nor the meaning. Still, I loved the gift. Without a doubt, it’s me.
The definition reads.
Coffeegasm {noun}: that little rush you feel after the first sip of good, strong coffee.
It’s not a real word but so what. It’s an accurate depiction of what I feel when I take that first sip of coffee.
Well, I had an unexpected day off from work due to weather, so I worked on my jigsaw puzzle.

The arctic vortex is sitting over much of the northern hemisphere dropped outdoor temperatures to well below 0 Fahrenheit (-20c) or worse with the wind chill twenty to -50-60f (-45c) in many areas, keeping me indoors today.
Over the holidays, my girlfriend/partner gave me a jigsaw puzzle as a gift. I don’t know whether to be ecstatic over the thoughtfulness of the gift or cringe by the vast time it’s taking to solve the jigsaw puzzle.
But first, let me backup.
Last fall, we went over to a friend’s house for dinner and conversation, catching up since we last saw each other. At that occasion, our friends had a jigsaw puzzle of their own they were working on. Interested, and with their permission, I found and placed a few pieces and thought nothing of it. more “Jigsaw Puzzle”…
My girlfriend suggested a new gallery which I call my Christmas 2018 Ornaments. They represent a few of my latest acquisitions to my ornament collection.

Yesterday, I wrote about setting up for the holiday, which kept me from writing all that much. Here are results from a job well done in preparing for Christmas 2018, at least as reported by family and guests who stop by for drinks and conversation.

Good day to you all, I’ve missed you. Writing during a holiday season is a challenge for sure. However, I can tell you that all of you, my readers, fans, friends and family alike, I think of you frequently day after day.
We came out of a four-day holiday in November, and I put it to good use, writing several chapters in my latest book, the sequel to ‘Perfect Prey,’ book 2 in the Consortium series. I’m excited about how this book is shaping up. more “Writing during a Holiday Season”…
