about the book

Shadowed Inheritance, Consortium Origin Tale #1
Family, Secrets, and Dark Truths. A legacy of Grief.

Family Bindings

Raven describes her mum as a sweet, kind soul who, while ignorant of the details of her husband’s activities, is the family’s matriarch. She establishes etiquette guidelines and entertains friends and colleagues for dinner parties. She submits to her husband in private playtime, calling him ‘Master’ while they enjoy their time together. Outside the home, friends and acquaintances recognize her as a giving soul, ready to help whenever necessary.

As a child, Raven had little love for her younger brother. As they grew, her mum instilled a sense of responsibility to watch over her son. He was quiet, moody, and highly talented. Despite her ability to read others, Raven had difficulty reading her brother. What she knew as they grew into adulthood was that they were two peas in a pod.

However, with her father, Raven recognized an air of mystery about him, a darkness that mimicked her own. Ever curious about what he did, she’d pester him with questions and sneak about to watch her parents’ pleasures in the bedroom. What she observed profoundly impacted her life, affirming that her feelings were normal.

The novel is a fast-paced story that keeps readers begging for more. The characters are well-developed, capturing the gritty edges of a black soul. Overall, it is an exciting and suspenseful novel that will keep the reader engaged right to the end.

Fabulous

I was enthralled reading this book. It gave a lot of insight to the main characters of the series, The Consortium. I liked getting a feeling of the family background. The relationship between Raven and her brother. It was an easy read, and it was hard to put it down. I want to read more about how the Consortium came to be and the characters. I enjoyed it very much. Also, looking forward to book 7 of the Consortium series. I love all of Richard Verry’s books.

Good

I really enjoyed finding out about the siblings’ past and early life, but I got a bit confused sometimes as one minute it was from a first-person view to a third-person in a whole sentence. I don’t usually complain about typos or punctuation, but this was a bit of an annoyance. Anywa,y it was interesting and shed some light on why the siblings act as they do and how actually loving the parents were to them.

“Wow! I was really anxious to read the back story on Raven and Sir and you did not disappoint! It was very intense, and very much not expected. Mum and dad are total opposites and surprising how & what traits each child inherited. Great short read and I would give it 5 stars!. Can’t wait for the continuation of the Consortium series.”
